ABBOTTABAD: The leader of the movement for the creation of Hazara province, Sardar Haider Zaman, resolved to continue peaceful efforts to win the rights of the people of the division as more rallies were staged on Monday to press demand for a separate province. Haider Zaman, head of Action Committee for Hazara province, addressed two separate rallies at Nowsherwan and Mandian.
Former foreign minister Gohar Ayub Khan, ex-ministers Omar Ayub Khan, Amanullah Khan Jadoon, MPA Qalandar Lodhi, Shahzada Gustasap Khan, Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani and others were also present. Referring to the move for seeking status of a province for Hazara division, Haider Zaman said: “We will continue striving till the achievement of our goal.”
Other leaders in their speeches criticised the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Awami National Party (ANP) and held their leaders responsible for the April 12 tragedy in Abbottabad that led to killing of 10 people and injuries to scores others when police had to open fire to break up violent protests against renaming of the province. They said Hazara was a revenue generating division of the province and its people should be given due rights accordingly.
Earlier, a large number of people took out a procession from Nowsherwan to Abbottabad city. The rally was led by Junaid Khan Tanoli, Pir Khan, Dr Adnan Bashir, Qalandar Lodhi and others.
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan also visited Abbottabad. He laid floral wreath on the memorial of the martyrs at Fowara Chowk. The PTI chief later visited Abbottabad Medical Complex and District Headquarters Hospital and inquired after the health of the injured persons.
Our correspondent adds from Mansehra: Hundreds of students held a protest rally against renaming of the province and for creation of Hazara province. The protesting students after marching through various roads gathered outside the press club. They were raising slogans in favour of a separate province and against the federal and provincial governments. Student leaders said that name of province was changed on ethnic basis and they would never accept it at any cost. They said a movement for a separate province had been launched which would meet its logical end.
