MQM submits resolutions for new provinces
* Hashmi says a new system has to be evolved for a new Pakistan, as people are disappointed with present assemblies
ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Thursday submitted two resolutions in the National Assembly for formation of Hazara and South Punjab provinces.
MQM’s Deputy Parliamentary Leader in National Assembly Haider Abbas Rizvi told the media outside the Parliament House that the MQM had started consultation with other political parties for unanimous passage of these two resolutions.
Almost all political parties are issuing statements in favour of new provinces. However, their stance in this respect will only become clear when they will take part in discussion on these resolutions, he said.
Rizvi said that the MQM had proposed that Hazara province should consist of six districts, namely Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Haripur, Batgram and Togar while a referendum should be held for formation of new province in the South Punjab.
The defiant voice of Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, who recently joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, echoed last time in the current National Assembly when he resigned from his seat, giving a wake-up call to the lawmakers to change their attitude, saying their conduct had miserably disappointed the entire nation.
Finding it hard to speak smoothly because of his fragile health, Javed Hashmi, who was elected to the assembly on the PML-N’s ticket and was vice president of the party, though expressed his respect for the PML-N leadership but sounded bitter when he talked about how he was treated when workers of the party elected him to the vice president slot of the party.
Hashmi also urged that for a new Pakistan, a new system has to be evolved as the masses were disappointed with the performance of present assemblies.
He deplored that the country was dying economically and the people were afflicted with paranoia because of their elected representatives, who come to assemblies in small cars but at the end of their term they own big luxurious cars.
Hashmi opined that whosoever came to the next assembly would have to change their attitude.
He pinned hopes on the new assembly and noted that a trustworthy leadership could come forward if the elections were held and urged prime minister to hold elections earlier. “If people give you the mandate, it is your right to become prime minister,” Hashmi noted.
He gave more credit to the political parties workers for scarifying for democracy than the leaders. staff report/app

Rizvi further said that their stance will become clearer when they take part in the discussion on the resolutions.
He added that MQM chief Altaf Hussain in a recent telephonic address to a congregation in Multan had promised to take initiative for the formation of new provinces.
“We have fulfilled the promise of our leader by submitting the resolutions,” Rizvi said.
He said that the MQM had proposed that the Hazara province should consist of six districts – Mansehra, Abbottabad, Khohistan, Haripur, Batgram and Togar, while a referendum should be held for the formation of a new province in South Punjab.
“Let the people of South Punjab themselves decide whether the name of new province should be Bahawalpur or Saraikistan,”
he said.
